I have several AVI files that don't really work with anything at all. I tried opening them with VLC and they do play fine, but the listed time is 0:00:01 and it goes over that when I let it play. Right now it says 0:02:11/0:00:01. It also says at the beginning that the AVI file is broken. When I try to put it in various converters, they don't recognize it.

The clips were ripped from a digital camera to AVI.

Here's what GSpot gave me if that helps:

    Container:
    OpenDML (Avi 2.0)
    File Length Correct

    User Data/Metadata
    ISFT CanonMVI06

    Audio:
    PCM Audio
    11024 Hz 88 kb/s

    Codec: mjpg

    4953 kbps

    Qf: 2.150

    30 fps

What converters have you tried? Tried ffmpeg or mencoders guis like super, winff, mediacoder, etc?
Doesn't the camera come with a video software?

  4. Any sample file?
You try VirtualDub (and as above FFmpeg/MEncoder GUI's)?
    Show all information from GSpot.

If You recompress audio with Lame MP3, necessary resample (11024 Hz > 11025 Hz).

Baldrick: it's not my camera, it was burned from a camera to a data CD to me. I asked the guy to send another copy to make sure this one wasn't messed up, and the same stuff happened. Here's a 20 second sample of the video:

Well, it's still not working with TMPGEnc DVD Author 3, it says it can only read the audio.

    Strange...
Maybe You need install decoder for MJPEG (try ffdshow)...
(I'm check and TMPGEnc DVD Author 3 open this sample file without problems.)

(VirtualDub contain internal decoder for MJPEG.)
