  1. I'm trying to copy an old training video on to my Liteon LVW 5001, but it's coing up copy protected. I've looked on the forum and that you can remove the protection on older firmware - mine ia 1162. I've tried to download the newer firmware but the machine won't recognise the disc. does anyone have an old copy of the firmware which will allow me to copy, or give me any help??

    Cheers

    You can do it. Just do search for Digital Video Stabilizer. It will take care of protection on VHS tapes. We are not to include links on this forum, so that is all I can give you.
    Good Luck

    The OP distinctly asked for FIRMWARE for a lite-on DVD recorder....not for an external stabilizer.

    @northy44,

    Do a search for ILOHack (Walmart used to sell the 5001 under its ILO brand). I used it on my old Liteon 5001 and it worked great. It patches certain parts of your existing firmware to remove MV and region restrictions; and gives you a 3-hour recording mode. Works with a lot of old Liteon models.

    I just did a search on it and the webpage is still up. Good luck.

    If you have nothing to contribute, do not complain.

  7. Some great info on these sites.

    You might be able to download your current version firmware, alter it, and then load it into your LiteOn.

    If that doesn't work, I have used this device for years and it works 99% for me.

  8. Hi Northy44, here are some steps to have the machine recognize the firmware;
    - ensure that only one file (firmware) exists on your disc and that it's finalized
    - do a "restore" on the 5001 under setup (this is the step that I used to forget all the time !!!)
    - load firmware disc

    use this firmware file for UK Liteon 5001 models

    http://www.pumapeople.com/liteon/UK-LVW5001%20hacked%20-%20Firmware/

    You should be good to go.

    As previously posted this site has all of the information that you need for your project.

    Good Luck
