I am about to start capturing and editing our family videos. The source video is in DV, HI-8, SVHS and VHS. Four hours of the DV was converted from Super 8 film.
I intend to use Scenalyzer to capture the DV. I will use Vegas Movie Studio 8 for editing. This will be my first major editing project. My question is, should I try to capture as large an AVI file as possible or allow Scenalyser to break the capture into smaller file sizes using Scene Detection?. If I go with a number of smaller files can I recombine the edited AVI files without reincoding?. I plan to use TMPGenc to encode the edited files.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Derek

DV format is made of a sequence of full frames (no motion compression) so you can rearrange frames as you like without any loss.
If you use Scenalyzer to create clips, that gets the same result as if you separated the video into clips with in and out marking. Frames can be rearranged as you like.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.
