    hello all, first post here.

thinking of getting the 5982, and have heard a lot of good reviews about it....
only thing is ,the remote seems limited....no 'angle' or volume control or even eject buttons.

the other option is the lg lda-831 which seems comparable and does have all those
    options on the remote.

    so the questions are:

if i got a philips universal remote, which had 'angle', volume control and eject buttons
would they work on the 5982?

and does anyone have any experience on the lg lda-831? there are no reviews on it here.
and i'm really tempted on getting it cuz it seems to have a lot of options
but philips seems to be the standard for divx playability.

    thanks in advance.

It's been my experience that any options that a player supports are always found on the remote, while the front panel often has limited controls. The exception being eject. In other words, if the remote doesn't have those controls, they likely aren't supported by the player. Switching to universal remote won't change what the player supports.

hey Krispy Kritter, thanks for the response...

i thought about what i asked in my post afterwards, and it does sound like a newbie question...

i know that if it doesn't have it on the remote, that the player probably
    doesn't support the feature...
i'm not that much of a newbie to think that a universal remote would
magicly add features to a player

but i was hoping the 5982 did have a certain feature (ie: volume control)
and maybe philips got got lazy and didn't bother designing a new remote
with the certain features, and that maybe a universal remote would make
    those features available....oh well.

    anyways...thanks for responding.
btw, i just got the 5982...and am having divx playback problems.
i'll post another thread with more details about the problem.
