Manufacturers of several DVD-writers say their products can write DVD-RAM at 10x or 12x - for example the LG GSA-E40L.

    http://us.lge.com/products/model/det...GSA-E40L.jhtml

    But I can't find 10x or 12x DVD-RAM discs to buy.

Do you know who sells this media?

The fastest I can find is 5x, then 3x. Do you think the DVD-writer will burn this at the higher speed of 12x?

When the DVD-writer was being developed, the designers must have got 10x DVD-RAM media for testing from somewhere? But where?

By the way, I know that writing on DVD-RAM is different than other DVD formats because, for example, DVD-RAM writing includes verifying so is actually slower.

Also, I'm not interested in a debate about whether to use DVD-RAM or another DVD format.

My understanding is that 12x media is available in Japan and other Asian markets but I have never seen it here in the United States. In my part of the US it is rare to see anything other than 3x.

I haven't found any US companies selling anything faster than 5x. And for the price of the discs, is it really important? Regular DVD+R DL and RW discs are a lot cheaper.

I had imported some of these 6-12X DVD-RAM dics from Japan, and stored some data on it. After some months I had trouble to retrieve it.

I assume the development of these media is not really reliable enough.
8 weeks ago I have not found a single shop in Tokyo's Akihabara electronic shops (this is the place in Tokyo with the most electronic shops anywhere in Tokyo) which offered any of these 6-12X speed DVD-RAM discs at all.

The only company which sold these 6-12X speed DVD-RAM discs was Maxell.
