Hey all:
Anyone know if there is a way to do a time search in a divx file? Seems like you would be able to but the guide doesn't mention it and I sure haven't been able to figure out how. Thanks.
Try StreamFab Downloader and download from Netflix, Amazon, Youtube! Or Try DVDFab and copy Blu-rays! or rip iTunes movies!

just checked on page 29 of the manual
(i haven't purchased the 5982 yet, but i did download the manual for
comparison shopping.)
it says press DISPLAY to open OSD menu during playback,
then press UP or DOWN arrow to select Time/Disc Time/TrackTime,
then RIGHT arrow,
then use the keypad to enter the time you want...
i'm not sure if this applies to divx, or if the manual was only
referring to dvd movies....hope that helps
btw...i posted this question, but so far no response...
do you know if the 5982 has volume control?
maybe pressing AUDIO then UP and DOWN arrow buttons works?
volume control is important to me, so i'm deciding between the
5982 which supposedly has good divx playability.
and the LG LDA-831...which seems to be comparable, AND has volume
control....any thoughts?
oh yeah, if you could respond back on whether or not the time search
worked for you that would be helpful on my buying decision...thanks -
Hey Wkk,
That is how the time search works for a regular dvd. So far I have not found a way to do it with divx files. Also I am unsure of what you mean by volume control. There are several sound options however I don't think any of them controls the volume, except for Night Mode, which just evens the sounds out. This dvd player seems to have preset audio equalization. Rock-Pop-Jazz for music, Action-Sci-Fi-Drama for movies, Hall-Arena-Living Room for 3D. Its also got virtual surround which I think is supposed to be like surround but with only 2 speakers. Not being an audiophile I can't say but they all pretty much sound the same to me.Long Live the Fighters! -
hey TufrThanu,
too bad the time search thing doesn't work...but i agree that the 5982
should be able to do it.
(btw, apparently the lg that i'm considering, can time search with divx)
i wish these players didn't all have different features, time search on
one but not another, s-video on a cheapy brand, but not on the 5982...etc.
makes the buying decision frustrating/fun.
anywho, as for the volume control, i meant literally controlling the volume,
so that i don't have to get up and adjust the reciever manually.
also, fyi, the volume control that the LG LDA-831 has on the remote control
is only for the tv, and does not adjust the volume of the dvd player.
which sucks, since i have the audio going to a reciever, and would mean
that i would still have to get up and adjust the volume manually.
well, even though the 5982, doesn't have every feature...
(ie: even a little thing like a rubber cover for usb port, like the LG has)
i'll be getting the 5982.
i'll post back if i find out how to do time search for divx....cheers. -
You cannot time search or resume on divx files. If you stop playing you have to FF to the time stopped. There's no way around it. I usually Pause, if for a short time.
There's no divx Player that can Resume on divx files. -
The Philips DVP 642 allowed time searching--at least in XviD, and I think also in DivX. Simply pressing Display twice and entering a left-hand zero-padded number would allow it. Unfortunately, I don't see similar behavior in the DVP 5982, which is extremely disappointing to me. I would think Philips would realize the usefulness of such a feature and make sure to keep it from previous players.
Another thing that annoys me is that subtitles can no longer be selected using the subtitle button. Some of us want to be able to play different subtitle files with our movie depending on the audience/situation. This, too, is another feature that was "taken away" from us. Other than that, I haven't experimented with the player enough to find any more issues, but I'm sure I will. It's still a great player for under $70, but I'm annoyed that I now have to keep my DVP 642 (instead of give it to someone) in order to keep this two simple features.
