I just got my panasonic DVD recorder hooked up (a DMR-ES25) and began burning some stuff from my Hughes DirecTV HD Tivo. All is well, until I go to play one of the DVDs on my desktop computer. The video, it turns out, seems narrowed, smushed, so to speak, so that everything on the screen looks slightly taller and thinner than it does on TV.
I'm sure this is something to do with aspect ratios, but I'm not sure how to correct it. Any help? Thanks!

When I had this problem, it was a codec problem I think.
Had installed a bunch of software and restored a backup to fix it.
Still can't play DVD's in windows media player, no sound.
This is a because AC3 codec is missing or not registered.
I use a stand alone version of Media Player Classic 6, 4, 9, 0
to play them.
Hope this helps.

Does it playback properly on the recorder? Are you recording HD content or SD content?
