My Sony DAVS500 is 7 years old and has already been multiregion chipped.
It will not recognise either DVD-9 discs (from Shanghai) or DVDs burnt by me on my PC or MACBOOK. (DVD- or +). In both cases the player displays NO-DISC or sometimes DISC DIRTY.
Is it simply that my player is a bit too old or is there something simple that I can do to resolve the problem.
Many thanks

Likely the player is just failing. With age, the lazer often becomes less powerful. The first types of discs to exhibit issues are recordable discs. If it is in a smokey/dusty environment, you could try cleaning the lazer, but don't expect too much. You may get several more years of use with commercial discs.
