I bought this DVD player from Costco last month, and from the start I noticed some dvd's would play fine and others would play funny (example: the picture would be fine in the middle but anything on either side looked stretched out and fat looking) so I looked on Philips site and saw there was a firmware upgrade, I did the upgrade and tada it worked....but only until I turned off the DVD player, then it's like my player forgets everything, and it goes back to the way it was...anyone else having this problem?? cause Philips wants me to send it to them to do an exchange and wait 30 days to get it back....

I would first take it back to Costco and get a replacement. Then see if the new one has the same issue. You might just have a bad unit....

Are you using a wide screen TV? The "fine in the middle but anything on either side looked stretched out and fat looking" is one of the stretch modes typical of HDTVs. Meaning all you have to do is change the stretch setting on your HDTV.
