Send it back to Apple, who will quote you a price for repair that is so high you will go out and buy a new one because it's cheaper.

Unfortunately, no. Apple build and sell these things as commodity items. They are not meant to be repaired.

Break the screen ? Buy a new iPod.
Battery won't charge ? Buy a new iPod.

Get a third party to repair it ? Maybe, but your warranty goes out the window because only Apple may repair Apple goods.

You could try to replace the screen yourself. Although I don't know what the feasibility of getting a replacement screen is. But at least for the Gameboy, you can get replacement LCD screens for about $25. So I wouldn't rule repairing the iPod out completely just yet.

OT if you can get a screen they are not that hard to change depending on the model. Batteries can be found on site sthat also provide tools and directions on how to change.

We did a bunch of IPODs here a while back for someone and all the wanted was to maximize the amount of good to bad. So we took some that worked with bad screens and others with bad boards and others with bad drives and so on and made as many good ones as we could.

I have noticed on ebay LCD screens for ipods.
So is there a way that i could do it myself?
The probwith the screen is it fell on the crossbar of my bike not only is there a crack on it but its completely messed with the graphics and only the bottom part of the picture on the display is visible!

So would this mean i need a new screen?
Also im looking into buying a bigger HDD for it.
    Is this also possible?

    Cheers.

You didn't say it was cracked. That means for sure you need a new screen.

Bigger hard drive? I do not know.

    Can you change it yourself?

The answer has to be NO, Maybe, Yes and everything in between.

No one here knows your skill level with tiny delicate electronics.

There are several tiny delicate connectors inside an IPOD. Damage any one and too bad.

I get computers in for repair all the time that the owners tried to fix themselves. I see screwdiver gouges where they tried to pry the computer apart and so on.

I just changed hinges on a laptop screen and the cover above the keyboard is held on with screws from below. Except for where someone tried prying it off and pulled the threaded inserts out of the plastic that holds it on.

If you can work on a laptop then the answer is yes most likely remembering don't force anything. I suggest finding a repair service for most people.
