Which Dvd Upconverters are the Best ??

Hello Everyone,

I have a Polaroid 26" up to 1080i Hd Tv, and a Element 23" up to 1080i
Hd Tv. I was wanting to get some advice on what are the best dvd upconverters
out there right now.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I've never seen a comparison. There are a few models, such as the Oppo 971H, which are known for their outstanding DVD playback and upconversion capabilities. However, given your screen size above, I wouldn't rush out and get a new DVD player unless you have a reason to replace the one you are currently using. Even on my 55" TV, I see little difference between a quality DVD at 480P or when upconverted (720P or 1080i).

I'm using the Oppo noted above, but I was shopping for a quality DVD player with Divx support, not upconversion.

As a side note, the Toshiba HD players (HD-A1, HD-A2, etc) are said to now be the best upconversion players.

It's the HD-XA2 that's supposed to have the best upconversion, but it's a little pricey.

European PS3 with latest firmware are really chalenging Toshiba XE1 (european equivalent for XA2) and their Reon chipset. I guess that NA PS3 do the same. Don't know what is the price diff between the two in your land.
