I am hoping someone can assist me in converting VOB files to a format that can be imported and edited in something like iMovie. I cannot encode anything however, but I have used this software on my old mac and it worked fine. I drag the vob file to the window, select a destination and format, The progress window opens, quickly runs the progress bar, (dings) then says finished, but it only takes about a second and no encoded file appears in the destination folder.
The VOB files are on my internal HD and they can also be previewed, so I know the content is good. The disc was created on a Hitachi dvd recorder so its not copyright protected material either. Also, I have tried many different target formats and get the same results.
I installed the software, downloaded all the binaries, and all the links are black, not red, so I am a little baffled.
here is the log info:

I'm running into a similar problem with the following log:
FFmpeg version CVS, Copyright (c) 2000-2004 Fabrice Bellard
Mac OSX universal build for ffmpegX
Sun Aug 19 18:46:36 EST 2007
libavutil version: 49.0.0
libavcodec version: 51.9.0
libavformat version: 50.4.0
Input #0, mpeg, from '/Users/philip/tmp/VTS_01_1.VOB':
Duration: 00:00:04.4, start: 0.228178, bitrate: 1940506 kb/s
Stream #0.0[0x20]: Subtitle: dvdsub
Stream #0.1[0x1e0], 25.00 fps(r): Video: mpeg2video, yuv420p, 720x576, 9100 kb/s
Stream #0.2[0x80]: Audio: ac3, 48000 Hz, stereo, 256 kb/s
Codec type mismatch for mapping #0.0 -> #0.0
This is on OS X 10.4.10, ffmpegX 0.0.9x, everything freshly installed. The result for any output format is an empty file. The source .VOB movie plays OK with mplayer but I want to convert it to a format I can edit on the Mac.Philip Machanick

Maybe, the VIDEO_TS folder doesn't have write permissions or something similar. Try again with a different save location (e.g. the Desktop), using the [Save as...] button.Originally Posted by designillinois
How is this similar? You didn't get a "Could not open" error.Originally Posted by philipmach
For some reason the subtitle stream inside your VOB is regarded as stream #0.0, while ffmpeg expects video to be stream #0.0 and audio to be stream #0.1.
Either re-rip without subtitles, or use a mencoder preset, so that the ffmpeg engine isn't used.
If you want help with the program, you would be better of posting in the General discussion forum. These requests here are neither bugs or suggestions.
Besides, more users will see your post in the other forum than here.
