Thread: HDMI to S-Video

    Hi all,

An acquaintance of mine wants to record footage from his PlayStation 3 while playing a game. He's not very technically minded, and wanted to know if there was a lead that splits HDMI to HDMI and S-Video.

Now I know there's not a cable, why it wouldn't work etc... but I was wondering, is there any kind of converter box available that he can plug into the middle of his setup, which would provide him with an HDMI pass-through and S-Video output socket?

I know nothing about his equipment, so I don't know if or why it needs to be S-Video, so I'm just assuming it does.

If anyone knows of such a device, could they point me - and him - in the right direction?

Many thanks for any advice on this.

I think he just needs the PS3 video cable:

I don't know if the PS3 will display both over HDMI and s-video at the same time.

    Ah, right.

To be honest, I didn't give that a thought - the reason being that I have a Virgin Media V+ box (basically a Scientific Atlanta TV Drive), and when you connect it via HDMI, the standard outputs are disabled.

Stupid me! I just presumed the PS3 would be the same. I'll look into whether the PS3 outputs to both simultaneously, and advise him accordingly. Thanks!

Hey i am having the same problem with this sort of thing, you see i play on the Xbox360 and i record with a Dazzle DVC 100 which is not a HD Recorder, how ever i want to play in HD but record in normal. Dazzle does not let you do this so i think i need a HDMI to S-Video or a HDMI to AVI adapter/convertor can you please point me out if these cables exsist and if they do where i would be able to purchase them.

It wouldn't be a cable. It would be similar complexity to a display card. HDMI has HDCP issues. Analog component would be more likely to work.

Check out the HAVA that converts HD analog component to 480i/480p.
