    1. When recording a Deul layer disc, do you need to finalize the first layer before using the 2nd layer?

    2. Can you pause through commercials when recording a program?

After you finalize a disc, it can no longer be written, regardless of type (SL or DL). Just use the DL discs like you would a SL disc.

If you are manually recording, you can stop/start/pause as often as you like.

You have to finalize the first layer of the disc, before you can go and use the 2nd layer. I unfourtunatly learned this the hard way this weekend plus it says so in the manual.

What type of discs (-R or +R)?

I only ask because from what I've read, -R discs seem to be treated as two seperate SL discs and aren't widely supported.
