I have been using WinDV religiously since I got my newer camera. So I go to use it tonight and now it crashes when I hit the capture button and video starts to stream. Any thoughts on this? I would really like to stick with WinDV if at all possible.

Define "Crash". BSOD? Lock up? Reboots?

Not sure if it helps your particular situation, but there is an issue with WinDV controlling cameras directly. Start the tape with the controls on the camera, then hit "Capture" in WinDV.

What's the exact text of the error including any numbers?
Have you installed any other programs lately?"Shut up Wesley!" -- Captain Jean-Luc Picard

Jim44: Thats what I have been doing.
Gadgetguy: No numbers, but it says something about: Runtime has caused this program to terminate in an unusual way.
No numbers or other explanations.Regards,

Have a look in the application event logs (Right-Click My Computer -> Properties, expand the Even Logs tree and click on Application) at the time of the crash and see if anything is logged.
Do you think it is either the hardware or software failure? Software may need to be re-installed and check your harddrive. (check disk scan and defragmentor)
Well I am at a loss, since like I said it was working fine. No changes at all either hardware or software.

Do you have VC++ installed? I used to get a error like that on my web browser, whenever a site would be a conflict. The debugger would be set off and ask if I would like to debug.
Have you checked the cables? Device drivers? Do you get any stills? What os are you using?
Soulds like a delimia.
I had a problem before with batteries that would not hold a charge.
I'm still waiting for you to answer Guns1inger's question...

Have you tried a different capture tool (e.g, the one built in with Windows Movie Maker)?
Doing so would help determine if it is a specific WinDV problem or a more general problem with some of the drivers etc provided by the OS that capture programs have to use.John Miller

Nothing in the event log, regarding WinDV.

Anything at all, at the time of the crash? An error that causes a program to crash might not identify the crashed program.Originally Posted by phorkster"Shut up Wesley!" -- Captain Jean-Luc Picard

I'd say run Dial-A-Fix on your PC.

Maybe you are missing Visual Basic Runtimes?

I've never heard of Dial-A-Fix so won't comment on that, but re-installing the VB Runtimes is a good idea as one (or more) of them may have gotten corrupted.

I know this thread has been dead awhile but I thought I would post my solution. Really dumb actually. The capture dir got somehow set to an invalid dir and was causing the program to but out with that error msg.
