    I have a DAC-200 right now. I do very simple capture and edits. I'd like to be able to do it with some HD video though. Is there any external device like the DAC-200 that handles HD?

    Uncompressed 700GB/hr HD?
    Try BlackMagic and Aja.

    The missing product is an ADVC type device for component/DVI to HD MPeg2_TS, MPeg4 h.264 or HDV at sub $500 prices.

    Canopus has a new ADVC-HDM for hardware conversion of HD SDI to HDV or MPeg2_TS streams and a AVDC-HDSC1 for HD SDI to analog componenr for monitoring but I don't think this these are what you want.

    Most products out there are targeting format conversion for pro uncompressed SDI NLE environments, not HDV type NLE's.
