    That's part of Media Center:
Description: ehRecvr.exe is a process belonging to Microsoft Windows Media Center and provides additional support for this Microsoft Operating System. This is a non-essential process. Disabling or enabling this is down to user preference.
Other than that, you would have to do some research for Media Center to see what the problem really is. Probably a setting has changed somewhere.

  4. Standard process.

    It worked BEFORE.

    It does not work NOW.

Detail, completely, any and all changes to the PC, including hardware, software, updates, cabling changes, new installation, ANY AND EVERY THING, if you moved it, changed a cable, what has changed, in between, BEFORE, and NOW.

Is it connected to the Internet? Then virus and spyware scan, recommend disconnect for an HTPC.

The changes question almost always gives the answer. I usually repeat this three times on average before getting the complete info from my customers, so here goes.

Detail, completely, any and all changes to the PC, including hardware, software, updates, cabling changes, new installation, ANY AND EVERY THING, if you moved it, changed a cable, what has changed?

Has anything been changed, installed, updated, moved, reconnected, power outages, describe ANYTHING AT ALL OUT OF THE ORDINARY that has happened to the PC.

You may get the answere here, but YOU have the information needed to arrive at the answer.
If you got nothing, then re-install, if that don't work, then format and re-install. Next time you will be more observant.

I can virtually guarantee something has happened to the unit, you or someone in your household knows about it, and there is about a 30% chance you will supply the needed information in a short period of time.

first thanks for getting back to me..I'm using a WinTV card the program is Hauppauge Version 3.4D ...and it works for watching TV but it won't record so I was using Windows Media Centre it did everything..the last time I used it and it worked I had a coaxial cable from my VCR to my computer..and I was copying old VHS tapes everything worked fine..we did have a power failure but am not sure if after that it didn't work...WMC works with music and pictures it just seems like the video part won't work...I'm using Vista Premium and when I open WMC and click live TV the little wheel just spins and I have to shut down..there was one occasion when I did get all the way to searching for a signal and it had found one but then froze up again..I hope this information helps...thks p.s. winTv still works I can still watch live tv on it its just WMC thats not working

  6. Vista Premium plus Windows media center? Well, when one unstable piece of bloatware is piled on top on another, malfunctions are quite likely.

WinTV still works, indicates hardware is likely to be OK.

Don't know if it DID NOT work after power failure, can you verify if it DID work after the power failure? That is actually the major question as we know for certain, that sometime AFTER the power failure, it stopped working. Did it EVER work after teh failure, most especially AFTER A REBOOT? BTW, get an APC.

Question about Internet connection not answered. Very important as this is only source of unknown changes to the machine that can be at least somewhat identified and corrected. HAve you done a virus and spyware scan? If so, did it find anything? If so, what? If not, stop right now and do both scans. I expect results from these tests, at least two. If no effort made here, mine stops also. Do not reply that it has no spyware, what program and what version, with what date on the data file, says so?

Last time it worked it had a coax connection to a VCR. Goodie. WHAT TYPE OF CONNECTION DOES IT HAVE NOW? Your statement implies that the connection might have changed. You can see the unit better than I can. You must clarify the information, I can only guess.

Think a while on this. WHAT HAS CHANGED??? In order to guess at this, this would include the state the PC was in the last time it worked, and the state it is in NOW. Have you plugged in a new mouse? New remote? Changes to incoming signal? Have you tested with something real simple like a menu screen from a VCR or DVD with no media inserted, just system setup?

15 years in the business, 90% of the time the answer is in the CHANGES MADE TO THE PC. Experience tells me I have to ask again, and again, and again. What has changed? Do not guess what is important and what is not. If you knew that, you would have fixed it yourself. Think long and hard. What was it like the last time you are certain it worked, and what is it like now, and what happened in between. Take your time.

Have any teenagers had access to the PC? Particularly teenage boys? Don't want to know if access is allowed, but have they been there when you could not see both them and the PC? If it has an Internet connection, and teenage boys have been unsupervised near the PC for more than 60 seconds, bet the farm a porno site has been accessed. That means spyware and/or viruses. Older males almost as risky in this regard.

Simple possibilities would be to clean out the temp files, check the system logs for any malfunctions or error msgs, including back to the time it was last known to work, for anything out of the ordinary.

Last resort is remove and re-install the card, then Vista, then as a final effort is to format first.
Updating the drivers I would NOT do unless you updated them after the original install. You want the EXACT situation that worked, which may be the latest drivers, may be the ones on the disk, may be something in between with neither the disk version or latest update being workable.

If you need to play a Real video, try Real Alternative instead of Real One. Real One can sometimes mess up a system and change around your other player preferences.

Besides AVG, I also run SpyWare Blaster and SpyBot S&D, as AVG doesn't catch everything by itself. AVG also has a freeware Anti-spyware program available. And keep all of them updated and do regular scans.
