Burning Stops at about 23% ?

As the title says I've been trying to burn dvds recently and they seem to be failing at around 23%. I cannot pin-point when this began to happen as i have made a few changes recently, one them being that I have upgraded my version of nero to Nero 7 Ultra and i have also changed the dvd media that i use.

Media = SUMVISION RITEK 8X DVD-R
Burner = Pioneer 107d
Programs used = imgburn, nero recode, intervideo dvdcopy5, (all burn with exact same results of about 23% burned to disk and then fail.)

I have tried a couple of things that i found on googlebut none helped: Using nero drivespeed and setting the spindown time to ''infinate''.
Also tried checking the secondary ide channel to see if the transfer mode was set to ''DMA if available'' - it was.

I have burned about 10 coasters and tried another 2 types of dvd media (one of which wouldn't even begin to burn at all) and have now come to a dead end. I have the nero logfile and can post it if that would help.

I would be very grateful for any advice.

You Got Problems.


Although I'm not a Ritek basher....someone WILL come along and tell you it's your media. I've never had a problem with Ritek 8x media...but Sumvision sounds fishy to me.

The fact that you appear to be having the same issue with multiple burning apps and different media, would lead me to believe you have a hardware issue(bad burner).

Try uninstalling/reinstalling ImgBurn and then try burning a data disc (this will eliminate movie encoding apps/issues).

The drive is a bit old (firmware) and Ritek media is questionable. Have you tried burning at 2.4x or 4x?

Solved the problem very simply by using the 'Nero clean tool' to remove 'Nero 7' (Garbage) from my comp and re-installed Nero 6.6. Seems to burning dvds now without a problem.

I would have recommended that, but since you said Imgburn didn't work either I didn't. Nero 7 actually affected Imgburn's ability to burn? Glad I'm still using Nero 6.6.

The only problem is the RITEK media - they are crap and a waste too.
