Avi -> Smaller size

Well, i have a simple problem, i have anime episodes that dont fit in 1DVD by just a little (total size about 4550MB)
I think encode some episodes can solve it.
I want to lose less quality as possible, so I want sugestions from you guys how should I encode (file extension, codec, quality)...I have main concept h264, but I don't know how to configure it,
the only codec pack I got are CCCP and real alternative.
By the way, one file XVID can be with the same quality, but small h264?

Divx/Xvid (use either one you want - Xvid is free, Divx is not free) are very easy to use and offer very excellent quality. H264 is more difficult to use and more difficult to play back. You can only play H264 files on PCs. Some DVD players will play Divx and Xvid files, so you can watch them on your TV.

AutoGK is a good tool to use to encode with Xvid. If you buy Divx, you can use Dr. Divx, which is very easy to use. I have had excellent results by encoding to Divx with bitrates of 2000 Kbps. For anime you can probably use lower values and still have excellent quality. Animation looks better at lower bitrates than live action does. If you want to encode to Divx or Xvid and want to be able to play the files on a DVD player, don't use:
1) QPel (Quarter Pixel)
2) GMC (Global Motion Compensation)
3) Video bitrates higher than 2000 Kbps (higher bitrates are problems for many DVD players that play Divx and Xvid)

H264 is better quality than Xvid/Divx, but just a little better. It takes so much longer to encode to H264 that I don't do it.

I just want to burn the episodes to fit in 1 DVD disc (the size now is 4550mb) and I'm going to watch on pc
The size of each file is about 175mb, I think with 165~170mb each can fit in one disc
So I wanna know the best way to reduce the file with less quality loss.
The files are avi with Xvid codec...
Anyone who can figure a good way to do this please post!
