    Hi,

Though I'm a newbie to this site, I've been trudging away on my MacBook, teaching myself how to download music, tv and movies to unRAR producing avi files which I put into Toast 7 and burn DVD for use on DVD recorder. Most problems sorted on this.

One remaining problem is when I have an avi file with an accompanying srt file. Toast will not accept these files. Have worked without much success with ffmpegX. Ended up with DVD which would play on Apple Mac computer but not on DVD player (subtitles showed on avi files played on VLC player (but other wise disappeared!!!).

Spotted today a recommendation on this site to use Submerge to join avi and srt files. Tried it for free and it seemed to work alright (though hadn't reached the export stage. Decided to pay the $9. Whatever I do in export, I do not end up with a file that I can put into Toast to burn onto DVD. In fact, with a whole list of export formats, I've had very little success. For instance, when I select "avi" there is a brief flash on my desktop but no conversion and nothing exported anywhere.

Please, PLEASE, can anyone help dig me out of this hole????

Have not used Submerge to do what you are asking.
    Have you checked into D-Vision?
D-Vision, IIRC, should do also what your trying to do....

of late, What I have been doing has depended upon how
long the avi is. If it is under 40 mins, I just load the .avi
in VLC, select the appropriate Subtitle file ( english) and
then "hijack" VLC using iShowU, and thus create a QT .mov
file that has the subtitles burned into the video.

for movies longer than 40 mins, I use Seriban's tips which works fine...
I just skip the last step of
going back into Mpeg2Works, and instead, drag the QT
created .avi directly into Toast. The self-contained .avi
will burn fine in Toast, with subs embedded.
