The 5960 and its replacement also do the same. It only happens at root and with DVD. AVIs will sutdown if paused or left at the menu.
this is what was burning out my players before.what good is sleep then?
Many units have a screensaver mode.

what good will having a screensaver on help when it is the lasers that are being burned out from haveing a disc left in them a good while?why do the lasers not turn off after a time?
According to the user manual for your player, 10 minutes isn't an option (15, 30, 45, 60 are the choices). Possibly you aren't setting it correctly, or you have a bad unit.
As for the screensaver, my player stops reading/playing the disc when the screen saver is active. If it isn't reading the disc, then the laser is off.Google is your Friend
ok then it was 15 minutes(the lowest)
why do the dvd lasers still go on during a static root menu?
Now my sleep works but it cuts off the movie and shuts down the unit in the middle of a movie.
I don't have an option for a screensaver
I am tired of my players dying by being left on the root menu
