    I have been using nero vision express to convert avi's in dvd format for a long time. But lately everything I try to encode freezes my computer up.

    Have you tried any other converters like dvd flick, convertxtodvd? If it also freezes it could be a hardware problem like overheating or something.

    I have tried convertxtodvd and it still freezes. My computer doesn't freeze any other time but then, do you still think it could be an overheating problem?

    Simple test. Take the side off your case and point a small desk fan into it. Run an encode while the fan is running. If it completes, overheating is the most likely cause.
