Going to need a little bit more info before anyone can help you...

What do you consider to be basic editing? Cutting, merging, cross-fading, etc.
What is your final output to be? DVD, VCD, Digital file, tape?
Your profile is vague - do you have a capture device or DV cam?

I tranfer my VHS tapes to my DVD recorder-this improves the quality, and I have a Macrovision stabilizer in the system, if needed. Now, I rip and convert to mpg-then I use VideoRedo to edit and then burn with TDA. Results are better than originals.

  4. if you do not have a dvd recorder, I;d recommend the panasonic ES$%V combo, it is very good for good quiality vhs recordings.

I intend to do cutting and the final output will be DVD. I have a DV cam and a capture device. I just bought a Dazzle Hollywood DV Bridge, but neither of my computers will detect it.

I tried connecting the vcr to the video camera, and the video camera to my computers firewire. However, I get a "buzz" sound on the audio.
