    Hello. I have some .mkv files with ssa streams that I am extracting. They are coming out formatted like this:

    1
    00:00:12,820 --> 00:00:19,350
    1,,Style1,Comment,0000,0000,0000,,{\i1}From afternoon till evening that day...{\i0}

    2
    00:00:19,430 --> 00:00:24,020
    2,,Style1,Comment,0000,0000,0000,,{\i1}...a light evening rain passed through.{\i0}

    Unfortunately when I play them back the player shows all the formatting, like this:
    2,,Style1,Comment,0000,0000,0000,,{\i1}...a light evening rain passed through.{\i0}

    Is there a program or something that will convert these files to plain text so there is no formatting?

    I have subtitle workshop and I've tried conversion but it doesn't strip any of the formatting. I could go through and edit each line of course but that would take forever! I would appreciate it if anyone knew a much faster method

    Subtitle Workshop can remove color tags.
    Open your subtitle and type CTRL+A (a shortcut for Select All).
    Then rightclick on subtitles and click "Remove color tags".
    This helps with other formats, but I'm not sure if it will do for SSA format.
    If that doesn't help, try to use subtitle tools which are made for SSA format - Aegisub or Sub Station Alpha. Use them to remove formating and export to sub, txt or srt.

    If that doesn't help, try to use "Search and Replace" function, for example:
    This is your SSA:
    00:00:12,820 --> 00:00:19,350
    1,,Style1,Comment,0000,0000,0000,,{\i1}From afternoon till evening that day...{\i0}

    With "Search and Replace", you can remove these parts:
    ,,Style1,Comment,0000,0000,0000,,{\i1}
    {\i0}

    Simply replace these tags with blank space.
    Be sure to check "Match whole words" and "All the subtitle".
