    i've got a couple avi files which were mp4 converted using alltoavi, but when the conversion finished it left some noise on the avi file. is there anyway to remove this noise

    No, not really. Go back to the original AVI files and re-encode to MP4 with a better converter.

    Compressing a compressed source is always a problem and will always result in some degradation. If you are lucky it wont be too visible. Mpeg-4 compression seems to struggle with large areas of gradient colour, like sky and walls. The results is banding, pulsing and noise. Even good mpeg4 encoders struggle to beat this if the bitrate is low. The only way around it is to add your own, artificial noise - film grain, for example - to fool the encoder. Of course, if you do this you will have to use a high bitrate to handle it.
