I went on a school a trip, and my teachers filmed most of it. I offered to edit it. They gave me 3 miniDVD-R discs (that are finalized). Now how do i transfer (Rip) them to my computer? I am only 14yrs old so i would like a free option. And one that doesn't require me to rip the audio and video seperatley (preferably). Any help is greatly appreaciated.

The sooner someone can give me a answer the better. These have to be edited within the next week. So please help.

Assuming you have a DVD writeroes your PC see the disc in Explorer?
If so use DVDDecrypter in IFO mode(make sure to select "no file splitting"),another option is VOB2MPG.
There are some free editing software, look to left under "Tools".

BTW:welcome to videohelp.com and have fun with video.

  3. Like MOVIEGEEK said DVDdecrypter is the best tool for copying to your HD. You should be able to just copy the VIDEO_TS folders from the discs with Windows Explorer, but Decrypter is just so much better. Then you will probably have to use FixVTS to be able to use the movies. Most DVD recorders really mess up the tables, then the authoring/editing software won't accept the clip (especially from Sony camcorders). Which program were you planning on using to do your editing?

For a one time project, you can use a demo like uLead or Womble offer. A lot of good software allows 20 days or so 'free trials'.

The program i was going to use is finalcut express hd for my mac. My mac is on m house network so i use file sharing to transfer movie clips/files from my PC to my MAC.

BTW i also have IMTOO MPEG converter. So i can make the files that DVDDecrypt produces on my MAC.

BTW Thanks for the quick responses

Its not a commercial DVD so no need to rip. Just copy the VIDEO_TS folder to your pc in windows.
