    Hey all,
Need help in buying a multiformat (Pal/NTSC) DVD player.

This is what I need it to do:
    Read CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-r,DVD+r, DVD-RW, DVD-Ram, DVD+r DL, Vcd, SVCD, XVID, Dvix, DVD-audio, CD mp3, DVD mp3, and has a file reader.

I need it to have an HDMI output and Compnent (y,pr,pb) outputs as well as a digital audio output (co-axial or light pipe).

I need it to have up conversion of good quality.

So far I have considered the Pioneer DV-696AV-s and 490V-s and some toshiba models but I don't know if they can do this. The file reader would be nice for discs I burned as data with VIDEO_TS files on them as well as for .iso files.

Karaokee would be a nice option.

Any input (comments, suggestions, criticisms) would be greatly appreciated for I have been doing research for hours.

Also, any suggestions on where to buy would be appreciated.

    THANKS!

    Best Regards,
    Mario

    I recommend the Oppo 971, although it doesn't support DVD-RAM. http://www.oppodigital.com/

You could also go to the DVD Players section and use the search tool.

  3. Hi!

I'm looking for a machine that can (pretty much) handle the same file formats and discs. However, I have one additional requirement - I need the player to be able to read DIVX AVI files from DVD-R discs, not just CD-R/RW discs. The Videohelp search utility doesn't mention this feature.

    Can anyone help?

    Thanks!

    Thanks Krispy Kritter (Nice Avatar)
Why would you suggest the 971 or the 970? I only have Yprpb HD hookup and when I upgrade my TV I think everything will be HDMI. Any other suggestions? How does the DV-696v-s or DV-490v-s compare to these guys?
    Regards,
    Mario

I am currently using the 971 and there are many other users that can also confirm it's playback quality...although only through the dvi output.

Another choice would be one of the Philips units (5960 or 5982). Although keep in mind that most units only upconvert over HDMI.

Decided on the DV-696v-s by pioneer because it can play everything I want and has a 16mb pal to NTSC convertoer. Let's see how it does....
    Thanks for all your help!
