  1. A couple of years ago I had Fourcc on my computer and it worked great whenever I had to change an Xvid to a DivX. Last year I had some computer issues and lost Fourcc. I've now downloaded it again, but the option to make it DivX is not there, only these choices: MP41, MP42, MP43, and DIV3. I had experimented with 2 .avi files - one shows up as Xvid (description code) and the used codec is DivX. Wonderful. Then I tried another one, but the used codec showed as Xvid. How can I get one of the options for the "used codec" to show as DivX all the time? I know before when I had Fourcc it was like that. Is there a way to make it so? If not, is there another program like Fourcc that will do it? The reason I ask is that before when it was working smoothly, I was able to create DVDs - changing the codec to Divx, then loading it in to Virtualdub to 'strip' the audio portion (create a .wav file) so that I could use TMPG to create a DVD compliant file. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated!

I don't understand why there'd be any need to do it,
    but,

if you install xvid (or have it installed) in the xvid directory, you'll find nic's mini avic fourcc changer (avic.exe).

It can also be done with a mencoder commandline:

mencoder input.avi -o output.avi -ovc copy -oac copy -ffourcc XVID

If you had Xvid installed though, you wouldn't need to change the 4cc since VDub would only the file directly.

Also if you were to use mencoder, then you probably have mplayer so you could do mplayer.exe input.avi -vo null -vc null -ao pcm:fast to decode to wav and avoid using VDub.
