    Hi, all,

Thanks in advance for helpful remarks.

I'm trying to convert an .avi file that measures 720x304 to a DVD using the DVD ffmpeg or DVD-MPEG2 encoder. When I use the options tab to add black bars in letterbox style, the bars are too tall, squishing the video. I thought I had found a solution by manually adding black bars that measure 60 pixels on the top and bottom. When I did that, the video is in perfect proportion, but it has black bars on the top, bottom, AND the sides, too! It looks like the movie is encased in a black box. I noticed someone with a similar issue at this unanswere post - http://forum.videohelp.com/viewtopic...&postorder=asc
Anyone got any ideas? Thanks very much!!!

So you have a 2.35:1 AVI that you'll need to pad to make it 16:9. 720/(16/9)=405. (405-304)/2=50.5. Padding needs to be an even number, so 50px on top and bottom.

This letterbox field is only available for presets that use the ffmpeg engine, so use the DVD ffmpeg preset if you want to letterbox this way.
For DVD mpeg2enc, it's all a single checkbox. Just make sure you set Autosize to DVD 16:9.

AWESOME explanation. Thank you, Case. I have no doubt that it will work beautifully.
