I've searched the forums here and done some other searching on my own, but I'm afraid I still don't quite get how to do what I need to do. I know that when someone rips a DVD, they often do so in MKV form to get all of the audio and subtitle streams in one convenient file, but hey, what if you want to watch it on your TV instead of your PC? Like say, on the newer model Phillips DivX DVD player?

That's the ultimate goal of my conversion quest as far as these MKV files go. I want to either be able to convert them back to DVD format (with a handy DVD burner) or at least convert them to a format the Phillips player will play without issue. I have Windows Media Center with all of the bells and whistles, so playing them on my PC is not a problem. Converting them is. I have VirtualDub and AviRecomp and a few other programs, but I'm not sure exactly how to go about making the streams go together to get the correct result. Is there a specific way to do this with MKV files or does it more of a lengthy proccess that involves picking the video, audio, and subtitles apart, and sewing them back together somehow? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. ^_^

Use AlltoAVI to convert to a divx/xvid avi with subs.
Use ConvertXtoDVD or DVD Flick to convert to a standard dvd-video.

Thanks! I'll have to give these a try and see how it goes.
