  1. Does anyone use 5 pin DIN plugs and leads anymore ? A bit antiquated I know, but here's a question. Has anyone got a diagram for the wiring connections. I want to make up a lead with a 5 pin DIN at one end to fit an old 1980s tape deck, with a headphone plug on the other end to plug into the external speakers on a computer.
I'm not concerned about the colours of the wires, all I need to know is which position is left, right, in, out, earth etc.

It's years since I've tried this and obviously I haven't got the instruction book for the tape deck anymore. Funny thing is, the tape deck, which still works perfectly after all this time, is a Sharp GF6060E and it sounds better than some of the modern stuff I've got. I did replace the head on it once (about 5 years ago).

    Thanks in advance

No guarantee that this diagram or your machine is following the same pinouts, but: http://pinouts.ru/Home/DinAudio_pinout.shtml

Pay attention to which is the female and the male ends, as they are mirror images from each other. Sometimes they also have tiny little numbers by the solder connections.

  3. Thanks for that.

Lead now made up and working well. I just wanted to copy some music off the computer to tape for playing in the car.

That's not a tape deck, it's a cassette player! A tape deck has open reels.....

    Since when???!?!?!?!?

I've always considered a tape deck to be something like this:

    http://www.hi-fi-insight.com/147/aiw...-tape-deck.htm

When I used to buy hi-fi tape decks, that's what they were called. If anything, the open reel object is an "open reel tape recorder"....

Digging up an old thread just to post a abusive comment can get you a warning card around here.
