    Hello,
I have been burning a lot of softsubs (.srt format) into AVI files recently using ffmpegx with no issues, and today a problem came up.

My first attempt to convert this file went normally, but after conversion I realized that the aspect ratio of the original file was off (512x480 as opposed to 640x480 like the rest of the episodes in this series). I attempted to reconvert the old file using the 4:3 aspect ratio (which autoset to 512x384) with all the exact same settings as the first time, but the progress finished immediately and the created file was zero kb. I retried this several times (one time with the aspect ratio set to 640x480), always with the same results. I also tried encoding the file again without changing the aspect ratio, and it still converts fine.

    Settings info:

    -Original File-
This is what ffmpegx tells me when I click the "Info" button on the upper right (next to play).
    VIDEO: [XVID] 512x480 16kbpp 29.970 fps 1215.9 kbps (148.4 kbyte/s)
    audiocodec: framecopy (format=55 chans=2 rate=44100 bits=0 B/s=16000 sample-1)

Of note: all other episodes in the series show [DX50] as opposed to [XVID] in the above information (as well as some differences in fps and kbps and such, but I don't think that's really relevant).

    -Created File-
XviD [.AVI] (mencoder), 1215.9 kbit/s, 512x384, subtitles position set to 95. All other settings are kept at default.

Also of note: I used the "DivX 3 [.AVI] (mencoder)" codec for one of the conversions and still got the same results.

Hopefully this is enough information to get my problem solved...

Ah, thank you. I had just signed up and couldn't post anywhere else, so I just stuck this on the newbie forum. Apologies for that.
