I searched the forums and the net on methods to burn The Davinci Code backup to dual layer media. So far the results have been 5 coasters.

My problem is unique to most that I have read about though. Basically half way through the burn it errors out. I will list what I am using and the error messages I have received and maybe one of the guru's here can help me out.

    Specs:

DVD Drive: Sony DRU-810A Firmware 1.0e
    Media: Memorex DVD+R DL
    Dell 8400

I have burned many Dual Layer discs using this computer / drive / media. The only changes I have made have been a firmware upgrade to the DRU-810A from 1.0d to 1.0e. I have had successful burns since then though.

    Method 1:

    RipIt4Me 1.6.4.0(Wizard)
    Full DVD Mode
    DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0
    Import PSL
    Fix VTS 1.6.0.2
    (No errors)
    Opened in DVD Shrink 3.2.0.15
    (no errors)
Set DVD size to DVD 9
with remove layer breaks (Checked) (I later found out that this is not a good method although I have used it and it has worked on other dual layer burns)
    Burned
    Nero 6.3.1.13
Error in burn half way through

    Method 2:

    RipIt4Me 1.6.4.0(Wizard)
    Full DVD Mode
    DVD Decrypter 3.5.4.0
    Import PSL
    Fix VTS 1.6.0.2
    (No errors)
    Opened in DVD Shrink 3.2.0.15
    (no errors)
Set DVD size to DVD 9
    with remove layer breaks (Un-Checked)
    Burned
    Nero 6.3.1.13
Error in burn half way through (I saved the log this time)

    Closed DVD Shrink
Opened in IMGBurn 2.1.0.0 (Cause I heard this is the better way to do it)
Followed the IMGBurn Instructions on burning a dual layer DVD from the guide here on Videohelp.com
Chose the best Layer Break according to IMGBurn
Proceeded to burn the DVD and again an error at 50%. I don't have the error log and was going to try a test burn to provide one but I heard that test burns do not work with DVD +R DL media.

I do have a screenshot of the error I received though.

Use Verbatim double layer media (on sale at Best Buy this week), not Memorex.

I used to own that exact same drive, the Sony DRU-810a, and it had trouble with the layer break. I bought a pack of 25 of Memorex, and I had, I believe it was 12 or 13, that would either choke on burning the layer break or would fail to read it back to me past the layer break. No more problems after switching to Verbatim.

    EDIT: added some stuff

my story is that I have any dvd installed and used Nero copy dvd option to memorex DL 2 x 4., could not believe Nero would copy just like that.

    Gatsu,

I agree with BoilerUp that changing to Verbatim will probably solve your problem.

Another bit of advice...don't use a DL ISO created by DvdShrink as it doesn't do it properly. I would also recommend you stick with ImgBurn, especially for dual layer burning.

You're right that you can't do a "Test Mode" burn using +R media. You'll get a real burn.

    Welcome to VideoHelp.

Thanks for the replies. I am going to Best Buy today to pick up some Verbatim discs since they are on sale! Thanks for the heads up on that BoilerUp.

I would have purchased Verbatim before but I am too cheap!

Will post the burn result tonight.
