So do you do a preorder for anything? I generally don't. If its something I absolutely have to have I want to buy it at the store the day it comes out. Otherwise I just wait to buy it when I have time.

  2. I've only ever pre-ordered one thing - a book on Windows device driver programming. That was more than a year ago - still hasn't been published!

  4. They will refund it. They also acknowledge it's taken a them a lot longer than they'd hoped.

I often pre-order DVDs but on-line (play.com). More often than not the DVD is posted through my door two days before its official release.

Lets say that I use to when DVD's were still 'New To The Market' but now days:
[1] Best Buy or other discounter will most likely has it on sale for less than the preorder price.
[2] I rent it and then wait a month or three and if it is a movie that I really liked and most of the time the price is now down to $10 or less at WalMart/Best Buy/ect...

    I pre-order comic books at http://www.mailordercomics.com/

It is much easier keeping track of things that way LOL

I never pre-order DVD Videos except this one time due to the release being a limited release (a very limited release).

The major drawback to doing a pre-order is that you don't always get that great of a deal and secondly many mail-order and internet sites do not charge until the item is shipped and I can never seem to keep a whole lot of money in my bank account and since I don't know exactly when the charge may hit ... I avoid it.

I did pre-order a hard back comic book at OVERSTOCK.COM once because they charge at the time you order even though it is a pre-order. This way I knew I had paid for the item and didn't have to worry about the charge hitting my account at a time when I might be "low" on money.

With the sales that retail stores (like BEST BUY) tend to have the first week of a DVD Video release ... well ... the pre-order idea of saving money just doesn't always "fit" anymore so why bother?

About the only thing I pre-order regularly is videos from Nexflix to try to see a new video before everyone else wears out the disc. But they delay so much these days that I can usually rent it locally a week or two before I can get it from them.

I bought a digital camera a few years ago by pre-ordering. I got the second one imported to the US, so I was happy. But it was about a 5 week wait.

But I rarely pre-order anything else. If I can't have it NOW, I don't want it.

Not really. I've only pre-ordered Aladdin. They gave out a free Genie doll with every pre-order.

We only pre-order books: the latest installment of series for our kids, or the latest editions of travel/nature guides for places we're interested in visiting. For movies, games or cds we never bother.
