converting avi to svcd results in 'failed' message

hello

i have carefully run through the ffmpegx installation instructions and svcd conversion with ffmpegx instructions. when i attempt to encode the avi all goes well until it gets to the end when i get a simple message that says 'failed'. i can't get any more info on why because the info screen crashes each time. any ideas?

Have you verified the avi is free of errors? You could also try tmpgenc.

it works ok in quicktime. how else can i check for errors?
