So what do you like about getting new electronic equipment the most? The holidays are in full swing this week and the gift giving and getting season is here. What do you like most about opening a new box of tech toys?

I like the thrill of diving into something I don't know 100%. I like exploring new tech. Even if its as basic as a dvd player I like seeing the slight changes or new features a particular model has.

I usually DL the manual before I buy it and read it. When I get the equipment, I plug it in and try it.

My favorite equipment is what works without having to refer to the manual. The 'best' as far as I am concerned is a piece of electronic equipment that would just have a 'on' switch and work perfectly the first time and never need a manual.

1.) Satisfaction that a need/problem has been resolved with the new equipment
2.) Turning it on and exploring before I use the manual if I use it at all
3.) Installing it - hooking up electronics is a fun time for me

    Well thought out Poll, Yoda.

    Tough choices... Good job, Yoda.
I like installing it best because it is a fun time for me, but the satisfaction that a need/problem has been resolved is a very close second if the equipment is to solve a need or problem. A lot of the stuff I get is just because I want it, not because it's a need or I have a problem. If it's not something that really needs to be "installed", I enjoy reading the manual while exploring it. Sometimes the manual lets me know about a feature I didn't know it had.

I like to open the box, caress the new gadget, maybe take it apart to to see how it works (yes warranty goes bye-bye) then plug it in my PC.
Depending on the device, it may even end up in my bed like a new Gameboy SP I got long ago.

Don't forget that 'new' electronics smell....they should make an air freshener like that.
