  1. What is size of standart DVD cover art in pixels? In other words; what the size should be, that it would fit just fine to empty dvd case?

steveryan is likely suggesting a 300dpi standard photo quality print size.

If you're working at 72 dpi, convert it by dividing the dpi by 300, then multiplying by 72

A pixel is not a real world unit.
You need to know the DPI (dots per inch) to get a real size.

eg, 600 pixels printed at 300 dpi is 2 inches. Printed at 600 dpi is one inch; at 75 dpi is 8 inches.

Also, there are several different size DVD boxes, and you can also use CD boxes, the boxes are smaller but the discs are the same size so they fit.

Many burning apps seem to come with cover printing modules for some standard size boxes, you can import just about any image to these. They should scale to fit and as long as not really low res should print okay.

    Exactly.
Use the above template if you are creating from scratch....then Google
MultiCoverPrint software....that is my method anyway.

  12. I have used Nero cover designer.

Edit. I just downloaded that MultiCoverPrint. So i just add cover, that i downloaded from cdcovers.cc and print it? Does it then print it to right size for 14mm DVD case?

It prints to a normal sized DVD case....just like 99% of the cases bought, sold and used by the industry.
Use a piece of plain paper....print one at very low quality as a test, cut it and test it on a normal sized DVD case.
It works perfectly for me every time when I do it from scratch with the template and MultiCoverPrint and with covers sent to me by others.
If you are in Finland....you have the advantage of A4 paper...you are already one step ahead of Americans(which I still am....but I live in Europe).

Yes and no.....it's hard to explain....
    We have Legal size...8.5 x 14 inches...but
for some reason I still don't think that is A4
    exactly.

I use HP Brochure paper for my covers....but I have
    nothing but HP printers.

    A4 is 8.3 x 11.7 inches

I think therefore the usa letter size is probably nearest (8.5 x 11.0 inches)

Normal letter sized paper in America is 8.5 x 11 inches....this is the most common size.
Legal is supposed to be 8.5 x 14.

  18. Does matte paper eat more ink than glossy paper? And if so, how big the difference is?

Since DVD cases have clear plastic that covers the print, it is better to use the cheapest paper you can buy at normal (or fast normal) setting. You'll use less ink which is the most expensive material that you will use in this process. Yes, more expensive than the discs or the cases.

My old HP printer would not print to edge so I had to use legal paper which was 20# paper but my new HP printer will print to edge so I use any 24# 8.5 x 11 paper that is on sale.

For CD cases, I use 90# or 110# bristol or card stock.

Not sure....but I do think that MultiCoverPrint throws out WAY too much ink. I use normal quality settings with that program. I'm not even 100% sure that MultiCoverPrint is capable of "having a say" in how much ink is used....but it sure seems that way to me...
    I could be wrong.

  21. Yesterday i printed 18 covers to Canon 190 glossy photo paper. On 13th cover it started to notify that color ink is running out. On final 18th cover, colors were already unsharp/lame. I printed with "normal " quality and color cassette was almost unused.

Anyway, the result of covers was very, very retail like.

  22. Is it normal that black color is very grey when printing to matte paper?

  23. Seems that other manufactor than Canon papers doesn't work with my printer (Canon iP1700). Is this common?

  24. I'm using www.printdvdcover.com for a while now, it's simple and free of charge. You can print DVD, Blu Ray or Jewel case covers with it. The output is PDF so you can use it on every platform, also a MAC!

On the website you can also download JPG templates for creating your own covers.
