THANKS TO b1tchm4gn3t for this POLL IDEA
ORIGINALLY POSTED SUGGESTION IN THIS POST:

So is it ok to just swipe somebody's avatar or do you take the time to make your own?
I usually take something off the net and do my own cropping to get it down to whatever size restriction a particular forum has set. So in away it's my "own avatar" but not really - but my choice of cropping is unique.

I don't believe you should just use somebody elses avatar, however I neither swiped mine nor made my own. My avatar was custom made for me by Steve Troop, the artist of the webcomic "Melonpool".

On the whole - - - maybe this should answer it.

That's damn funny.....because b1tchm4gn3t stole that "Acme Computer Repair" avatar from me.Originally Posted by yoda313

I just use a photograph of myself.
no! not on the same message board anyways... that's your "name & face" i have gotten to know you by. you don't just take someone else's face!
I am just a worthless liar,
I am just an imbecil
The question shouldn't be "is it OK". It should be "Is it cool to use someone else's avatar?" The answer is yes, it's ok and no it's not cool.
I made my own avatar, but I didn't create the character in it (Thurgood Stubbs from "The PJs"). So I guess I could be a little cooler if I made it all from scratch... or maybe not. Who has time to do that? LOL

Uncool. And I'd politely ask anyone using mine to pick something else. Not that my avatar is 100% my own work - It's tweaked (by me) photo.

I say no. It took me hours upon hours of labor to be a Jackass.
I'm still looking. Most of the ones I have wanted to post are too large to be posted under the guidelines for this site. When viewed on a 17" or 19" monitor they look tiny. Best though to make your own as it's like your signature....unique....
It's cute. Smile too... looks like grin to me...Originally Posted by mike909

it doesn't take much effort to at least make something a bit your own work. mine's a normal mean smiley i added a lit cigar to. 20 minutes tops.

Mine's cropped from a photo I took last year on safari. It looks like the baboon is thinking...in reality, well, that's between him, me and the lens....

Stop being lazy & get your own.
Have you asked? if they say OK then no Prob if not, then probably not
I think it's in bad form to take someone else's avatar. It's like stealing someone's identity.
Most of the time we get used to quickly identifying a poster by their avatar. It's a unique thing that should belong to that person
I think it's fair game ... and I'd be really surprised if anyone wanted to steal mine
If in doubt, Google it.
