iPOD video/music 3rd party software

Hey guys, I have no idea if this is the right place to post this at but I just bought an Ipod, and I am clueless on what is a good program to use to transfer my music files as well as Videos to it? I am using MediaMonkey right now and it seems to work ok, but am sure there are other better programs out there than can do both?

Ipod comes with Itunes program. Its easy to use.

Try Anapod.

Its good for loading IPOD without Itunes.

Will also allow your to copy from IPOD to PC

There's a number of programs you can use, including the above, and WinAmp (has its own PMP handler, or you can use ml_ipod), YamiPod, etc. I've only really tried iTunes and WinAmp's method.

Does Anapod require the videos to meet the same h.264 specs as itunes does?

Well, actually, I have no idea if any of the third-party programs do allow for video, myself. They probably do - but since the iPod is strict on the type of videos it plays, yes, it'll most likely have to be in the same formats iTunes expects.

The reason I ask is that the h.264 page on wikipedia makes it sound as if alternative itunes apps do. Here is what it says.

Apple's 5.5th Generation iPod can play H.264 Baseline Profile up to Level 2 with support for bit rates up to 1.5 Mbit/s, image resolutions up to 640x480, and frame rates up to 30 frames per second. This device also plays MPEG-4 Part 2 Simple Profile video, up to 2.5 Mbps, 640x480 pixels, 30 frames per sec. Additionally, video of up to 720x480 (NTSC DVD) encoded in the iPod compliant H.264 profile may be viewed on the device; if transferred with an iTunes alternative. Playback at full DVD resolution does not require any firmware modification to the iPod.

Uh, I'm not sure that's true. Did some research on it, and I think you can get up to 720 with MPEG4, but I'm pretty sure that 640 is an absolute limit with the h.264.
