I am getting near the end of the video editing part of DVDs for my father in law of his 3 daughters life. We compiled all the old footage into seperate dvds focussing on each of the girls.

I now need to add music to it and as they go for nearly an hour I need some good songs!

Can anyone throw up some emotional songs or songs that just go well with this sort of video?

You know ones like 'time of your life' by Greenday but that is so overused I probably wont use it.

I will take any age group as some oldies are often goodies.

Some songs ive found that go well so far are:

Dont you forget about me - simple minds
blister in the sun - violent femmes
    everlong/my hero - foo fighters

Any suggestions would be appreciated as I need a few!

"So Young" Best of the Coors

Intro theme of the "Monkees" (old TV show)

Alot depends on the tempo of the video and it is difficult to fill 3 minutes of video to kind of match a tune
IS IT SUPPOSED TO SMOKE LIKE THAT?

Songs with no or minimal lyrics are good too - more like background music rather than complimenting the video.

Tracks from artists / albums such as:

    Zero 7 / Simple Things
    Enigma / MCMXC a.D.

    Specific artists / tracks:

    Ash / Shining Light
Ed Harcourt / Apple of my Eye
Hard-Fi / Living for the Weekend
Hives / Hate To Say I Told You So
Jimi (Hendrix, of course) / Foxy Lady
    Lou Reed / Perfect Day
Louis Armstrong / What A Wonderful World
Nirvana / Smells Like Teen Spirit
    Orb / Little Fluffy Clouds
Police / Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic
Police / Every Breath You Take
Rolling Stones / Honky Tonk Woman
    Semisonic / Secret Smile
Tal Bachman / She's So High
Van Morrison / Brown Eyed Girl
Wannadies / You And Me Song

...to name a few I've got that could fit the bil...

  5. Wow, great list of songs so far!

    In addition:

    Sweet Butterfly by Chuck Mangione
Times of Your Life by Paul Anka
We're Going To Be Friends by Jack Johnson
Happiness Runs (edited from the chorus to end) by Donovan

Hmm, all I can think of for now.

  7. Some songs:
    Forever Young - Rod Stewart
Just my Imagination - the Temptations
    Don't Look Back - Boston

But why don't you just use period songs?

Anything by Tammy Tampax And The Tamponettes. Great band, only play one gig a month etc... Sorry, couldn't resist.

I think sphirschler means if you have some footage from 1987, use some music from 1987.
He's a liar and a murderer, and I say that with all due respect.

In my Daughters Eyes by Martina McBride. Im not a country music person but that song is perfect for someone celebrating their daughters life.

I made a video for my brother with his 2 girls (ages 5 and 3) and everyone in my family cried their eyes out and begged for more. It was perfect...

  16. Doris Day's Que Sera Sera (especially good if older folks will see it):
When I was just a little girl
I asked my mother, what will I be
Will I be pretty, will I be rich
Here's what she said to me.

    Que Sera, Sera,
    Whatever will be, will be
The future's not ours, to see
    Que Sera, Sera
