VCR DVD Recorder Combo Wont Work

Hi there.

I just got a VCR DVD Recorder Combo so I can record my daughter's Disney tapes on to DVD. But it is telling me that the tapes a protected. Any way of getting around it?

I just want to put the real Disney tapes away for her before the get broken. So any help is great

Bestbuy sells a Sima product called something like "DVD Copy", or something like that that stablizes the video which gets rid of Macro copy protection. All you have to do is use the DVD output audio/video and connect them to the VHS inputs with the Sima product inline of the video.

How do i know what kind of macrovision it is? I have noticed that the disney tapes have a peace of something missing on the tape and my pre recorded tapes have it, and this works for The COMBOS too? Can you find out what it is called. thanks for your help

I think the missing bit you are referring to is the punch out piece of plastic on the back of the VHS tape casing. This just stops you from being able to record over the bought tape.

Macrovision is a protection system encoded onto the recorded video. A TV will ignore it but if you try to copy the tape to another VHS machine or DVD recorder, they will detect the protection and either not allow you to record or record a very distorted image. A video stabilser (like this http://www.110220volts.com/Merchant2...ct_Code=Sed-cm ) connected between the playback deck and record deck, will remove the macrovision protection. Whether you can intercept the signal between the two parts of your VCR DVD recorder is a different matter entirely.....

The VideoStabilizer devices refered to do not work with DVR/VCR combos.

If you were to attempt to overcome the protection (a probably illegal activity) you need a separate DVR, a VCR and a VideoStabilizer and appropropriate cables.

The plastic tab you notice is missing is a write-protect tab. I prevents you writing over a pre-recorded tape. It has nothing to do with copy-protection.

I've run into the same problem with backing up some very expensive imported DVDs and VHSs that I want to be able to put the originals of away, and I was wondering if the video stabilizer will allow me to make a back up of my original DVDs, or will it only work to disable the Macrovision on the VHS?

Don't use a dvd recorder to back up your disks, use your PC. It's faster and better quality.
