Should all dvd's that I burn off with my computer play in 480p when played in a p.s. dvd player hooked up to a hdtv? I use COnvertx2dvd and the sources for all of my video is dvd.

The player does the upconverting in hardware, so the source should not be a factor.

A progressive DVD player will output either progressive or interlace DVD discs at 480p @ 59.94 frames per second to a progressive TV.

Progressive discs contain both fields of progressive frames stored at 23.976 fps. These fields get combined into frames and output in a 3:2 sequence as 59.94 fps.

Interlace discs contain separate fields at 29.97 frames per second (59.94 fields per second). The DVD player needs to convert 480i to 480p. The methods used range from crude deinterlace blends to high quality "cinema" inverse telecine or advanced deinterlacing. This is what separates a $50 K-Mart special from a $150 quality player.

An HDTV will accept 480p, upscaling 720x480 to the native resolution of the display.

Some players will upscale internally and output as 720p, 1080p or 1080i
