CORRUPTED FILES USING WINRAR

I wonder if you can help me with an issue that is doing my head in, big time. When extracting torrents from a website which I have downloaded using Utorrent (only started using Utorrent), there are a lot of files that are corrupted.

I have the most recent win rar and cleared my PC of any adware, spyware etc. I also have defragmented my hard drives and finally I also have cleaned my Pc internally and ensured that my CPU was not clogged up with dirt.

I am at my wits end as I know it isnt an issue with the torrents but with me somehow. I have downloaded at least 4 video files recently and they all seem to have corrupted files. I cant get them converted using svcd2dvd until I have them extracted.

Can somebody please help me before I put this Pc through the window.

The source files are either corrupt or they are becoming corrupted while you are downloading them. There is no "fix".

Try a different source.

If you can't unpack the RARs, you're screwed. Did the fileset contain PARs? If no PARs, you're done.

This is one of the "joys" of P2P networks. It happens all the time. You want stuff for free, you can't complain when it doesn't work for you. The files are either corrupted because someone else who has it has a problem on their PC or there is the possibility that if it's a new movie, MPAA people have been rumored to provide corrupted files to thwart people who want to download the film.

It sometimes can even be worse. There are few sick people out there who use this as a means to transport viruses. Be careful with bittorrent. IF you don't know who created the file, there is always a degree of risk when you blindly download a file.

I never understood why it does not do more of this! If I were in charge I would flood everthing with mis-named RARs. So everyone can DL 8 gigs, spend the time to unRAR, and then realize they DL'ed something else.

You can try 'Extract without confirmation' and 'Repair archive', but if WinRAR refuses to try to open them, they are probably corrupted. There are a lot of 'fake' files out there also. Try some different sources and that may tell you if it's a problem with WinRAR or your data.

And as mentioned, if you can find some with the PAR files, you can use a program like QuickPAR that works well. PAR files have backup copies of the files included.

Check the sizes of the individual packets also. They are usually similar in size. If you have some odd ones, then the files may be corrupted.
