ffmpeg freezes

Hi Major... and everyone out there...

I installed ffmpegx & reallibs as per the How-Tos (exactly like the how tos) but my ffmpegx freezes everytime i try to open a real media file... everything else is fine...

Can someone help? i'm using a macbook...

[Case]

Check the filename extension. Make it ".rm"/".rmvb" for genuine video files, not ".ram", as that is reserved for link files, which should be small text files with a URL in it.
This can get mixed up easily, as often you get a ".ram" file when you try to download a Real video file, even when the file on the server is a ".rm" file.
Giving it the right extension back may help recognize the source file better.
