Hi folks,
I looked thru all the postings for the Philips DVP5960/37 and I did not see an answer to my question.
I have successfully used a 80GB external 2.5" HD that I formatted it to FAT32 and have played AVI files via the USB just fine. I tried something different the other day ... I loaded up my movies as a DVD Folder ... for example Title: Hidden Sword then all VOBs in VIDEO_TS. I tried playing it thru my USB ... by the way I power my external drive via my laptop ...
Problem is ... these Movies play extremely jerky and SLOW ... both Video & Audio.
Question: Can this even be done ... playing a movie the way I have it via USB without being Jerky & SLOW?
Thanks,
G!

Might be possible but the results could be slow and extremely jerky
Hi Lacywest,
You are exactly right. It does play but it is way jerky and slow as heck ... both Audio & Video.
I was wondering why would this be ... or may be someone can point me to an explanation site ...
Just trying to learn more!
G!
I have the same problem, I figured out that it must be a speed issue, im assuming that the dvd is usb 1.1 which would probably be to slow, i might be wrong. i can play avi's no problems, but no vobs
it is the USB1.1 port that is too slow....
The same thing affects Divx/Xvid playing. They play OK form a external drive but you will notice they take longer to load and that the FF is not as smooth as when they are played from a DVD in the DVD drive of the player. It is just a Port thing.
That being said I have played MPGs that are VCD quality and they play OK. Once again 1/8 the bitrate of the DVD files.
Hi folks,
Thank YOU all.
@TBoneit, your comment has stirred me in a new direction ... Thx!
G!
