Thanks! At least I don't feel like a total dunce ... it's the first question in "Hop-Hog" 's FAQs.

    From Baldrick's post

    How do you pronounce Hauppauge?
Hauppauge is a town in NY on Long Island.
    Hauppauge is pronounced HOP-HOG.

  7. Of course, how you pronounce "hop-hog" is open to question, too.

Is it with standard North American vowels (i.e., more like hahp-hahg)?

Whatever way, I always pronounced it hoe-parj - sounds more exotic! But I found this on Google:

I wonder how the original population of the area pronounced it?

From a marketing perspective, I've always wondered what these guys were thinking! You can't pronounce it, you can't spell it (this makes Googling difficult). They didn't brand their product with an easy to remember name.

I once thought these guys must be real smart but a visit to their booth at NAB '05 made me think I was way off track on that.

So I guess ATI gets bought out by AMD for gazillions but these guys remain difficult to Google.

Some years back, at the late lamented Comdex, a company rep used the first of your two pronunciations, when I inquired.

I haven't seen the Matrox name show up anywhere in quite some time. Are they still a going concern ?

Matrox has specialized in multi-head display cards intended for business desktops, signage, medical and scientific applications. These cards concentrate on 2D format display and skip the gamer chips.

A third class of cards are the OPenGL vector based models intended for CAD and 3D modeling type markets.
