I'm going to be getting a Zune when it finally comes out, and I wanted to encode some new material for it.

Obviously there's no Zune-specific profile in MeGUI, so I've been using the preset meant for iPods.

Unfortunately, I have several movies I've ripped that were encoded as XVid AVIs because I thought I was going to get a Zen Vision:M.

I know the smart thing would be to wait and use Microsoft's conversion software, but I'd rather roll my own.

Does anyone know if Zune handles AVI's? According to its specs, it doesn't, but to me it'd make no sense to support mp4 and AAC videos without supporting AVI files.

    From Wikipedia.

It also says supports "All" h.264. I'm guessing that means all profiles.

There's no posting of bitrate though.

You could begin creating 3mb/sec encodes. I use that right now for my iPod, and it creates pretty much DVD quality (for Tv-out).

I'm certain Zune will support more video features/settings than the iPod.

if you have the file as .wmv, Zune software will convert it to the correct format that will work with the device. Hope this helps.
