  1. I've been using MPEG-Streamclip with Mac OS 10.3.9 to export .vob files to .dv or .mov prior to editing in iMovie. In some cases, I'm able to do this in one step simply by choosing "export to quicktime" or "convert to dv." In other cases, however, the export process goes very quickly, but I end up with only a small part of the file. In these cases, I've resorted to demuxing the .vob file to M2V, and then exporting that to quicktime or dv. As this is a lengthy process, can anybody tell me why this happens and how to get around it? (I've asked the MPEG Streamclip gurus, but can't seem to get an answer.)

take the .vob file over to ffmpegx,
and then export to DV from there.
    Import as normal into iMovie.

most likely a bug in the MpegStreamclip software.

If you are only ending up with a small part of the file I'm guessing that your file had Timecode breaks that needed repairing in Streamclip. Simply choose the Repair Timecode item in the Edit menu. That should make the entire video appear in the Streamclip so it can be exported.

  4. I've tried ffmpegx in the past, and it's slower than my MPEG Streamclip workaround. If I fix the timecode breaks, I end up with blips every 30 seconds or so and have to use the workaround anyway. I've just learned that there's a newer version of MPEG Streamclip than the one I have, so hopefully that will solve the problem.

    Anyway, thanks for the input.
