I've been using TMPGEnc for years now, at least 4, and I really love it. However, recently, something's happened and I don't know what. For some reason, when I try to convert videos (WMV and AVI [15-25 minute files]), it takes 2-3 times longer than usual...Many times, it freezes half-way through the conversion. Can anybody help me? I haven't changed the settings since I configured it the way I like it, and it worked just fine for years. I'm so confused. BTW, it makes no difference whether or not I use VBR...Even if I switch back to CBR, it still takes MUCH longer than usual.

Oh. And its not just this computer I'm on now...It's the same on my other, newer computer.

  2. WMV's are hard to convert. Try MediaCoder or ConvertXtoDVD.

A really noisy source can slow down encoding.

But I seem to be having the same problem with ALL files, also.

  4. What's the source of the avi files? Capture from old video tape? What sort of avi compression?

  6. If you were having this problem with stuff you capped yourself, that's one thing, but stuff from the Net could be anything.

I suggest you try MediaCoder or ConvertXtoDVD on the problem files.

It happens on 2 different computers? It has been a long time since I used TMPGEnc but what are your VFAPI settings set to? do you have the latest codecs for avi? encode and decode.
