XviD Version 1.1.2 and avi.NET

Just installed the latest build of the XviD codec and did a test-run on a 30 second MPEG2 with avi.NET.

The results are great - the latest version of avi.NET is fab - but...

When I use GSpot v2.21, the resulting avi file is listed as being coded with DivX 5.0.

What have I done wrong? Is this necessarily detrimental anyway?

p.s. I did de-install the previous XviD codec, before installing the latest build.

That may be a deliberate thing in avi.net, to make it more playable on standalone players.

What happens if you update GSpot to version 2.52 or the latest 2.60 beta (I think it's beta 3, at the moment), and scan the file? Some programs like GSpot may need to be updated to recognize the newest versions of some codecs. I don't think XVid's FourCC would have changed, though...

From the Xvid Configuration dialog press Other Options (near the bottom). Select the FourCC you want.

It's already set as "DIVX".

I upgraded my version of GSpot but it still says DivX.

I've now manually changed the FourCC of the file now anyway, using Nic's FourCC Changer.

If avi.net is set to use DIVX as FourCC, it's hardly surprizing GSpot reports it as DivX, is it? As some players insists on only playing the FourCC DIVX, it makes sense to disgiuse XviD as DIVX.

Ah, so avi.net has the ability to do that? Okay. I don't use it, so I didn't know.
